Heavy House... Turmion Kätilöt

The other day we were sitting in a car and my daughter turned on some song from her phone playlist. She was impressed by the pitch of that heavy metal song. Turned out it was a Finnish song, which made me interested - welcome Turmion Kätilöt to our Friday Crazy Music column!

It's pretty cool I was told about this band because I cannot find any unknown Finnish bands anymore. Probably, it's time to start crawling Spotify API. But it's a separate topic.

Turmion Kätilöt. Don't even google translation. I mean it. Same about any lyrics. Keep it unknown. When I was about 10 years old, I got my first cassette walkman player. I remember listening to some rap music in the headphones while my granddad was around. He asked me - what are they singing about? And I honestly told - no idea. But maybe it's even good. Until you don't know - you can imagine something good about lyrics. At the same time - don't forget Dee Snider with his famous phrase - music is projection material. The listener can project his dreams and desires into the music and can find whatever wants to find. If you look for friendship and love - you will find it. But if you look for violence - you will find it there as well.

The music itself is fun, quite fast and heavy, but not too brutal. It's not destroying my ears, like any other extreme metal band would do. It even has some funny noises and melodies, reminding me of synthesizefolk Finnish music. Somewhere very deep inside...

Teurastaja song (again - don't google it) brings to my mind a picture of DJ and Metalhead who decided to form a band to synthesize metal music and DJ party noises into the same flow. What we listen here is the result of that weird friendship. It's like when metal heads decided to have a party with their girlfriends, who doesn't quite like heavy music. So that had some fun!

After thinking about it I googled the band and what was a surprise to know that it was formed by MC and DJ :) No other facts except they have a lot of live shows in Finland, and nearly every festival has them in the lineup. At least 6 shows in August this year. That's pretty good for a band you have never heard about 😄

p.s. I specifically selected a piece of life performance. They are crazy, they look weird and ugly. It's even uncomfortable to see sometimes. The same feeling was described by Alice Cooper (the very Alice Cooper who chopped his head off and held it while singing during live performances in 70's) in the interview - when I go to Northern Europe I always buy a fresh Heavy Metal Magazine and I cannot turn a page without not being scared and surprised. They all try to overcome each other in horror looks. But if you see some of these guys in reality - they are nice and even shy, could ask you for a signature.
