Lapko

Lapko

You know, I’m running out of unknown interesting Finnish music bands. But still want to explore this area a little more. So today we are welcoming Lapko!

When I found it, I thought it’s a cover band. This is a reasonable thought when you see song title like Money for Nothing , or I shot the Sheriff … My thinking was - hm… such a versatile cover band it should be.

But it’s not. It is a band from a very small town Harjavalta in the middle of nowhere. 4 folks wrote quite a lot of songs and there were known from 1996 to 2016. They even signed with some labels and, judging by video, filmed videos in California. Which is quite cool, actually. Filming nowadays can be quite cheap and easy (can, not is). But back then in 2000s it was a big deal.

Honestly, only one song caught my attention. I still keep thinking it reminds me. It is exactly as some other band or style, but I cannot put correct words to describe it. It’s little to intense to me. The same lyrics and idea could be put into slightly more elegant music I think. But the very simplicity of it makes it cool. It’s like a band from college - they already know how to make music and how hard it might be to earn money, but still have idealistic vision of the world.

I could talk more about it, but that just draw your attention away. This band and specific song symbolises a thin balance of a young person about to become adult, but still having young and too brave thinking.

Speaking of similarities - it reminds me The Subways, if you make the volume of subways music down for 50%
And also it reminds me Stereophonics, if you increase gain twice and remove all love songs from them.

And such a funny sexists cover arts they have! They flipped latin letters so some words remind me Russian words in their covers.

Anyway, even though this particular band is over and done with music, it’s guitarist and vocalist is now in a new project - Moon Shot!
